What an exciting time to be at the University of Mobile! The Office for Advancement has the privilege of working with generous donors, both alumni and friends of the university, in securing gifts that are making a real impact on campus. Here are just a few of the things that are happening right now:
J.L. Bedsole Strength and Conditioning Complex – Construction of the new strength and conditioning complex is well underway, thanks to generous contributions from the J.L. Bedsole Foundation and several other individual donors. This 4,000-square-foot facility is a long-overdue addition to the university’s many athletic programs and will serve our athletes, preparing them to reach their full athletic potential.
Endowed Student Scholarships – Despite these unprecedented times, UM is seeing an increase in donors who are establishing endowed scholarship funds. This is due in part to the tax benefits of making such a gift, and also in part to the stability of the university’s leadership. Endowed scholarships are created when a donor makes a gift to the university, which is then invested in order to generate recurring income from the interest earned. To be considered fully endowed, the amount invested must reach a balance of at least $20,000. Over the last several months alone, UM has been blessed with new endowed scholarship funds amounting to over $100,000.
Gerald Wallace Tennis Complex Court Restoration – Because of gifts made by generous donors, the university has started refurbishing the tennis court surfaces at the Gerald Wallace Tennis Complex. These courts have been in need of repair for some time, so this has been a welcomed development. Additionally, the grandstand tournament court, which has not been in game condition for years, has now been completely renovated and is once again online to host tournament play.
